The formation of the band dates back to the end of the 19th Century, originating as a Fife and Drum Band in 1893 and converting to the more fashionable form of Brass Band by the end of 1895. 1901 saw the appointment of George Aston as Bandmaster, and under his guidance the band soon started to win prizes in the competition field. The band was then aptly renamed the Jackfield Prize Band in 1906. In 1923 a brand new set of silver plated instruments was purchased and the name was changed to the Jackfield Prize Silver Band.

The period during and after the war proved to be very difficult for the band and the village. The continued depletion of local industry, the landslip in Jackfield and the closure of the Severn Valley Railway began to take their toll. But the band is proud to say that whatever hardships have befallen them it has maintained it s presence and continued to entertain audiences.

From 1980 onwards the band started to achieve excellent results in Fourth Section contests, and were rewarded by promotion into the 3rd Section. The good results continued and so did the climb. The band earned promotion directly into the First Section, therefore skipping the Second Section.

In it s history the band has qualified to represent the Midlands four times in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.  They have also been West Midlands Brass Band Association (WMBBA) prize-winners many times, and were the WMBBA First Section Champions in 2000.

The bands good form continues to the present day.  In April 2002 Jackfield were delighted to be awarded promotion into the Championship Section, and will begin competing at this new level in 2003.

For many years now the band has been very proud to receive sponsorship from Elcock Reisen Coaches and through an instrument sponsorship scheme has built a partnership with Gwynnes Solicitors.

Two CDs have been recorded. Live & Kicking, (which features live performances recorded at St Nicholas's Church Newport, Shropshire and Wolverhampton Civic Hall), and Tracks in the Snow, a Christmas CD, which was recorded together with the brilliant Beaumaris Singers from Newport, Shropshire.

At the forefront of technology, the band is very proud of it s web-site. It is updated regularly and gives the latest information about where the band is performing, news, contact details and many links to other sites.
